pedagogue
Mikhail
Voskresensky
turns
75
this
month,
and
this
week
there
are
several
concerts
in
his
honour.
On
Saturday
evening,
the
Conservatory's
Rachmaninov
Hall
is
to
see
several
former
pupils
of
the
professor
come
back
to
their
alma
mater
from
different
parts
of
the
globe.
Participants
include
Evelina
Vorontsova
from
the
Netherlands,
Koo
Ryeong
Park
from
Japan
and
Farizat
Chibirova
from Mexico. Alexei Kurbatov and Sergei Sobolev are also scheduled to play.
Their
programmes
include
music
by
Bach,
Mozart,
Kapustin,
Brahms
and
Scriabin,
and
Kurbatov
is
to
show
off
his
own
two-hands
version
of
Stravinsky's
iconic
"The
Rite
of
Spring".
Hearing
these
pianists
of
different
ages
and
backgrounds
will
be
a
key
to
seeing
how
Voskresensky has left his mark on piano music.
Voskresensky
himself
came
from
a
long
line
of
pianists
"descended"
from
Franz
Liszt
-
Liszt
taught
Alexander
Ziloti,
who
taught
Konstantin
Igumnov,
who
taught
Lev
Oborin,
who taught Voskresensky.
The
energetic,
inspired
pedagogue
has
juggled
an
active
concert
career
with
teaching
for many decades now, and he faithfully keeps alive the tradition started by Liszt.
